Welcome to the mesmerizing world of Mount M'goun, a captivating peak nestled within the central High Atlas mountain range of Morocco. Rising majestically to an elevation of 4,071 meters (13,356 feet), Mount M'goun stands as the second-highest summit in the High Atlas region, second only to Toubkal, the highest peak in the entire Atlas Mountains and North Africa.

An Adventure Awaits:

Mount M'goun is a renowned hub for hiking and climbing enthusiasts, offering not only thrilling challenges but also breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape. This exceptional mountain is ensconced within the Gorges du M'Goun, a deep and narrow valley that winds its way through the High Atlas mountains. Furthermore, Mount M'goun is an integral part of the Toubkal National Park, a sanctuary brimming with diverse flora and fauna, including a plethora of bird species, mammals, and reptiles.

Explore the M’Goun UNESCO Global Geopark:

Our journey takes us through the captivating M'goun UNESCO Global Geopark, one of the most sought-after trekking destinations in Morocco. During this unforgettable expedition, we will uncover the must-see wonders of this High Atlas mountain valley.

Day 1 : Marrakech – Ait Bougmez Valley – Azibs N’Ikkis (2300m)

Our adventure begins with a transfer to Azilal, the final town before embarking on a winding road that leads to the heart of the central High Atlas valleys. Upon reaching the first village, Agouti, we will rendezvous with our team of muleteers who will accompany us on our journey. Our trek towards Mount M'goun commences with a scenic stroll through charming Berber villages along the ridges of the Arous valley. As the day draws to a close, we'll set up camp near the sheepfolds at an elevation of 2,500 meters, offering a spectacular vantage point. This initial leg of our journey encompasses a 3-hour walk, including a 700-meter ascent.

Day 2 : Azib n'Ikkis (2300m) – Tarkeddit Pass (3400m) – Tarkeddit Plateau (2900m)

On this day, we ascend along the mule track, leading us to the highpoint of Tizi n’Oughri pass (3400 m). From this vantage point, we're treated to panoramic vistas of the expansive northern slope of Mount M'goun, the Tarkeddit plateau, and the surrounding peaks of the High Atlas. After a rejuvenating two-hour rest, we'll descend to our camp near the sources of the Tassaout (2900 m), where you can savor Moroccan tea beneath the mesmerizing night sky of the High Atlas Mountains. The duration of this day's trek spans 6 hours of walking, featuring a 1050-meter ascent and a 500-meter descent.

Day 3 : Tarkeddit Plateau – The Ascent of Mount M’goun (4068 m) – Oulilimt (2700m)

A pre-dawn start awaits us on this exhilarating day. After breakfast and preparations, we commence our ascent at 5 am, navigating the extensive ridge of Ighil M'Goun, striving to reach the summit of Mount M'goun (4,068 m). The rewards are astounding, with breathtaking vistas of the central High Atlas mountains to the north, the Dades Valley and the Saghro Massif to the south, and a mesmerizing landscape all around. We then descend via a corridor to our camp near Oulilimt sheepfolds (2,700 m). This day's trek encompasses a 9-hour journey, including a 1168-meter ascent and a 1368-meter descent. For those who prefer not to ascend Mount M'goun, an alternate route allows them to join the muleteers. Rest assured, the night is spent in comfortable tents.

Day 4 : Oulilimt (2600m) – Ait Imi Pass (2905 m) – Ait Bougmez Valley – Return to Marrakech

Leaving behind this region often inhabited by nomadic families and their herds, we ascend to the Ait Imi Pass (2905 m), which offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and the Massif Mgoun. After savoring this remarkable view, we descend to a peaceful spot for a relaxing lunch. Following our heartfelt farewells to the mule team, we embark on a several-hour transfer back to the vibrant city of Marrakech.
